Luz Cucvas of the Buccaneers humbled the hitters all season long and today celebrated as he hauled in the North Pitcher of the Year trophy, the much-coveted Outstanding Pitcher Award.
The Galveston hurler held opposing hitters to a .244 batting average while putting up 20 victories and 9 defeats and a 2.85 earned run average. He started 35 games, pitched 261.2 innings and struck out 112.
Cucvas will be honored this weekend at the SION Baseball Writers Association annual awards banquet.

In a sharp 5-hit performance, Jesús Lominchar tossed the Kayenta Warthogs to a 7-0 shutout victory over the Galveston Buccaneers, fanning 3 and walking 1.
"That's as good a stuff as I've seen in a long time," the Galveston manager said in his postgame interview.
Taking a look at this year, Jesús Lominchar has made 18 relief appearances, recorded 1 save and compiled a 6-5 won-lost mark and a 4.24 ERA. In pitching 125.1 innings, he has totaled 46 strikeouts and 46 walks.
