Thursday, August 6th, 1936: Wildfires Win, Shut Out Knockouts
Dimples Sipriano bent a little, but he didn't break against the Knockouts. The Garland pitcher hurled a 5-hit 2-0 shutout in a fine performance, surrendering 1 walk and putting up 3 strikeouts.

"Dimples is good at getting out of jams," his manager told reporters after the game. "He's almost more effective when he gets guys on base or gets behind in the count, because he uses your aggressiveness against you."

This year Sipriano has a 10-8 mark in 28 starts with a 3.37 ERA. He has given up 178 hits in 203 innings, struck out 95 and issued 80 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .238 batting average against him.

Saturday, August 1st, 1936: TEXAAA's Top Hitter Selected
In the last year of his deal with Celaya, Danilo Portillio has created some waves by winning July's North Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .427 batting average with 3 home runs, 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He also worked TEXAAA pitchers for 16 walks and a .525 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 31-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

This year Portillio has hit at a .332 clip with 81 hits, 8 home runs, 43 RBIs and 43 runs scored.

Monday, July 27th, 1936: TEXAAA Player of the Week Named
This week's outstanding performer in the North was right fielder Danilo Portillio of the Celaya Knockouts.

He racked up a .500 average and was voted the Player of the Week. Over the last week Portillio plastered 12 hits in 24 at-bats and 1 home run, drove in 7 runs and scored 5 times.

Portillio on the season is batting .328 with 8 home runs. His totals include 37 RBIs and 43 runs scored. He has played in 79 games.
