| Breaking News | | Sunday, September 13th, 1936: Monterrey Loses Rocky Cuchillo It took the Monterrey team doctor a while to realize it, but center fielder Rocky Cuchillo won't simply play through a pinched nerve after he got hurt making a defensive play in today's Aguilas-Industriales game. At first, it looked like Cuchillo might be back as early as tomorrow, but now the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least one week. A spokesman for the club described the loss of Cuchillo as a blow, but was confident that he'd be back soon.
This year Cuchillo has hit at a .286 pace and produced 55 RBIs, 6 home runs and scored 94 runs. | | Tuesday, September 1st, 1936: Great Month for TEX Rookie The South made the official announcement today. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory...your 5 minutes of fame...you get your name in the record book. Win or lose you get listed.
Gregory Fergoso got his name in the record book, but the Beaumont Exporters picked up the win, topping the Monterrey Industriales 11-6.
"Sure, I would have much preferred to win the game, but that's not how it came out. In baseball you win some, lose some and some get rained out," the Monterrey second baseman expressed his feelings during the postgame press conference.
He certainly did his part today, pounding out hit after hit.
Later in the clubhouse Fergoso spoke further about his big game, "To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime day. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day Fergoso delivered 5 hits in 5 at-bats, a day that will be good scrapbook material.
G. Fergoso singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off C. Gorrindo in the 8th.
So far in 1936, Fergoso is batting .275 with 12 home runs and 53 RBIs. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 68-86, .442 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 30.0 GB | | Record at home | 36-41, .468 PCT | | Record on the road | 32-45, .416 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 11-7, .611 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 25-22, .532 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 14-16, .467 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 54-70, .435 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 9-19, .321 PCT | | Record in May | 14-13, .519 PCT | | Record in June | 12-16, .429 PCT | | Record in July | 11-14, .440 PCT | | Record in August | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in September | 9-8, .529 PCT |
