Monday, September 7th, 1936: Week's Best Player Honored by SA
Mathias Hogue punched, poked and pummeled the baseball last week and today he garnered a majority of the votes for the East Player of the Week award.

The Montgomery Rebels first baseman slashed out a .346 average with 9 hits in 26 at-bats, 5 home runs and 7 RBIs.

This season Hogue has hit at a .294 clip with 80 RBIs, 22 home runs and 94 runs scored.
Saturday, September 5th, 1936: High-5s for Putman! Goes 5-5!
5 hits in 5 at-bats. It doesn't happen every day, and when it does, it's exciting. Today Mortimer Putman of the Macon Peaches had a sensational 5-5 game against Montgomery at Luther Williams Field. He rifled base hits all over the ballpark in his team's 15-4 shellacking of the Rebels.

In the postgame press conference he joked, "Heck, that's a week's worth of hitting for me and I did it all in one day. I guess I can take the rest of the week off...Right, skipper?"

M. Putman walked in the 1st, hit a two-run single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, walked in the 7th, doubled in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off M. Cash in the 9th.

A look at his season totals shows Putman with 8 home runs, .329 BA, .468 OBP, 78 RBIs and 102 runs scored.
