| Breaking News |  | Thursday, September 24th, 1936: Veteran Birdy Childers Extends Stay with Oakland
Birdy Childers inked a deal that will keep the seasoned veteran on the Oaks roster another 2 years. Earlier today team personnel announced that the 39-year-old had settled on a $113,860-per-year deal to play at Oaks Park.
It's no secret Childers is getting older, but he could still contribute a lot to the franchise.
This year Childers has compiled a 21-7 mark with a 2.81 ERA.

This week's top performer in the South was first baseman Warley Christy of the Oakland Oaks.
He lashed out a .577 average and was voted the Player of the Week. Over the last week Christy tagged 15 hits in 26 at-bats and no home runs, drove in 9 runs and scored 11 times.
Christy is hitting .353 in 1936 with 14 home runs, 91 RBIs and 83 runs scored. He has 153 hits in 434 at-bats and played in 111 games.
