| Breaking News | | Friday, September 11th, 1936: Henning 5-5 for Bees It was a big day with the bat for Elias Henning of the Salt Lake Bees as he bashed out hit after hit after hit against Sacramento.
To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today...and Bingo! -- 5 hits in 5 tries! But my hits are not the big story in the game. We lost the game 9-8. That's the story. The Solons flat out beat us!"
At the end of the game Henning had collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy for his big day with the bat, but not too happy with the outcome of the game.
The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.
E. Henning hit a two-run home run off L. Ros in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
Henning on the season is hitting .299 with 11 home runs. His stats include 50 RBIs and 63 runs scored. | | Tuesday, September 8th, 1936: Witt Listed DTD with Injury Is Irwin Witt going to tough it out and play through an injury? We'll get the chance to find out in the next 1-2 weeks as the outstanding Salt Lake second baseman attempts to shrug off a dislocated finger he sustained colliding with a player at a base against the Seattle Rainiers. Whether the management lets him play or handles him with kid gloves will depend mostly on how Witt feels on a day-to-day basis. But there's little doubt that the Salt Lake Bees will be happy for the talented player to return at full strength as soon as possible.
In the 1936 season Witt is hitting .335 with 5 home runs. | | Sunday, August 30th, 1936: Big Day with Bat, Chatman 5-5 Players get multi-hit games all the time. But a 5-hit game only comes around once in a blue moon. It happened at Bonneville Park when Spook Chatman of Salt Lake scattered 5 hits all over the ballpark against the Hollywood Stars.
He walloped 5 hits in 5 at-bats in his career-day performance to help the Bees get by the Stars 13-5.
In a talkative and jovial mood after the game, the right fielder of the Bees exclaimed, "Whoa, my swing was really, really there today. I made some good, sweet-spot contact and when that happens...good things happen...like 5-5. I could get used to a lot of days like this one."
S. Chatman singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off W. Robson in the 7th and walked in the 9th.
Looking at his season stats, Chatman has compiled a .323 batting average and a .374 on-base percentage, while hitting 8 home runs and driving in 62 runs. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Hiram Wright | back spasms | 3-4 months | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 76-78, .494 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 22.0 GB | | Record at home | 38-39, .494 PCT | | Record on the road | 38-39, .494 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 10-5, .667 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 28-20, .583 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 35-34, .507 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 41-44, .482 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 10-16, .385 PCT | | Record in May | 10-17, .370 PCT | | Record in June | 18-10, .643 PCT | | Record in July | 15-11, .577 PCT | | Record in August | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in September | 10-8, .556 PCT |
