Friday, August 28th, 1936: Hurd Sizzles, Toronto Fizzles
Speaking after the game, the Jersey City manager said, "Wiley Hurd had everything going for him. He controlled their bat speed, stayed down, had a lot of movement... he had it all...masterful."

Hurd held the Toronto Maple Leafs to 3 hits and fashioned a fine 4-0 shutout. He had 2 walks and 3 strikeouts in the game.

"We couldn't get anything going. He certainly had our number," the Toronto skipper told reporters.

Hurd has made 31 starts, tossed 240.2 innings, struck out 82 batters and walked 62. His record is 19-6 with a 3.33 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .268 batting average.
Wednesday, August 26th, 1936: Rumors Swirling in Toronto; Evert Wants Out
It is unknown at this time if there is any truth to the rumor that Toronto's John Evert has asked his team for a trade. Insiders indicate the catcher may not be happy with the club management. So far, the team's owners have refused to comment.
Wednesday, August 19th, 1936: Gifford Hurt, Listed Day-to-Day
Reports out of Toronto indicate that Pop Gifford, the gifted reliever, might be sidelined for 2 weeks or so with a damaged meniscus. The 25-year-old star suffered the injury in yesterday's Senators-Maple Leafs game while throwing a pitch. "It's a game time decision," noted the team doctor, "It all depends on how Pop feels later today. If he can play, he will."

To date, Gifford has collected 1 save in 33 relief appearances. He has rung up 22 strikeouts and 30 walks in 62.2 innings while registering a 5.03 ERA and a 4-5 won-lost record.
