| Breaking News | | Monday, August 17th, 1936: Harkey Slams 5 Hits for Jersey City It was a sensational day at the plate for Chicken Harkey, but a letdown as well as the Giants dropped the game 7-2 to the Keystones.
Nonetheless the Jersey City center fielder was pure misery for the Reading pitching staff. He left them shellshocked with 5 hits in 5 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting.
"It's always good to get a bunch of hits in a game, but you also want to win. That's the important thing," Harkey said.
The manager for the Keystones told SION reporters after the game, "Harkey put the ball into play. He really hit it hard. When you do that, you've got a pretty good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw him some pretty good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball."
C. Harkey singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
In 1936 Harkey is hitting .330 with 166 hits, 15 home runs, 84 RBIs, .378 OBP and has scored 103 runs. | | Friday, August 14th, 1936: | | Saturday, July 18th, 1936: Francis Raps Jersey City for 5 Hits It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Erick Francis. It was very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Francis went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Jersey City pitching.
When the dust settled on the diamond at Reading Park, he had a career 5-6 day and something he will long remember. And the Reading Keystones had a 19-7 victory over the Giants.
"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he laughed in the SION postgame interview.
E. Francis struck out in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, hit a two-run triple in the 6th, hit a two-run single in the 8th and hit a three-run double in the 8th.
Francis is currently hitting at a .309 pace with 9 home runs and 61 RBIs. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | 2B Reynaldo Salazar | ruptured Achilles tendon | 2-3 months | On DL, eligible for return | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 94-60, .610 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 7.0 GB | | Record at home | 47-30, .610 PCT | | Record on the road | 47-30, .610 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 9-8, .529 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 22-20, .524 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 19-9, .679 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 75-51, .595 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 8-2, .800 PCT | | Record in April | 16-11, .593 PCT | | Record in May | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in June | 18-9, .667 PCT | | Record in July | 12-15, .444 PCT | | Record in August | 19-9, .679 PCT | | Record in September | 12-5, .706 PCT |
