| Breaking News | | Friday, September 25th, 1936: Lincoln Giants Win Freedom Series You could hear the cheering all over New York as the Lincoln Giants secured the final out of a 5-2 win over the House of David to capture the 1936 Independence League Freedom Series 4-0. It was the 2nd time in the team's history to win it.
"The of David are a good ballclub," said the winning skipper, "We had to play at our best to beat them."
"Anytime you make big plays, it changes the momentum of the game," the losing manager said. "The Lincoln Giants made 'em and we didn't -- end of story."
During the season the new champs compiled a 111-43 record in the East and finished in first place in the standings. | | Tuesday, September 22nd, 1936: Davison Superb Against House New York was pleased to see so many goose eggs up on the scoreboard today as James Davison blanked House 16-0. He stopped them on 3 hits with no walks and 9 strikeouts.
His skipper said, "Once he gets in a groove, he can be dynamite. He was on top of his game in this one."
In 1936 Davison has a 21-8 record with a 2.76 ERA. | | Tuesday, September 1st, 1936: Spence Fashions Shutout Against Monarchs All went well for Loyd Spence of the New York Lincoln Giants as he pitched his team to a 6-0 shutout victory over the Kansas City Monarchs, limiting them to 1 hit while ringing up 7 strikeouts and surrendering 2 walks.
In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Spence.
His manager described him this way: "He's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy. He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."
The Kansas City skipper said, "He doesn't give you anything twice. It's a guessing game with him and today my club was always guessing wrong."
This year Spence has gone 15-8 with an ERA of 2.65 and has 152 strikeouts in 204 innings. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 111-43, .721 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 59-18, .766 PCT | | Record on the road | 52-25, .675 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 11-5, .688 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 25-15, .625 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 34-19, .642 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 77-24, .762 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 8-2, .800 PCT | | Record in April | 21-7, .750 PCT | | Record in May | 18-9, .667 PCT | | Record in June | 22-6, .786 PCT | | Record in July | 13-12, .520 PCT | | Record in August | 23-5, .821 PCT | | Record in September | 14-4, .778 PCT |
