 | Saturday, August 29th, 1936: Shipley Sidelined for 2 Weeks
The New York Cubans were dealt a serious blow when the team learned that Kingfish Shipley was likely to be out for 2 weeks after he injured himself making a defensive play in today's game against the House of David. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a scratched cornea. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the New York manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries--they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Kingfish is back in action."
This season Shipley is hitting .320 with 24 home runs.
