| Breaking News | | Wednesday, September 9th, 1936: Hits Galore! Becker Drills 5 Hits! Barney Becker got the glory and the headlines today, while the Toledo Mud Hens got the win. The Milwaukee shortstop easily handled Mud Hens pitching, going 5 for 6, but the Brewers came out on the short end of the score 7-6.
He told SION reporters in the postgame interview, "I'm glad I got the hits, but I would trade three or four of 'em for a win...maybe even all 5 of 'em."
The Brewers skipper added, "Well, it's a shame we didn't get the victory today, especially with his standout performance. Let's just hope our team can do better tomorrow."
B. Becker doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI triple in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, walked in the 8th, singled in the 11th and grounded out in the 14th.
Batting .309 to date, Becker has 1 home run and 40 RBIs. | | Thursday, August 6th, 1936: Lucas Holds Bears Scoreless "It was just one of those games, when everything went right. I threw a lot of strikes," Duck Lucas said. "And the pitches they did get to hit, they didn't do anything with them."
The Toledo Mud Hens pitcher really got it done in his 4-0 shutout victory over the Denver Bears, shutting them down on 5 hits. Lucas issued 1 walk and had 4 strikeouts.
Year-to-date Lucas shows a 11-5 record, 23 starts, 180 innings, 37 strikeouts and a 4.45 ERA. | | Thursday, July 16th, 1936: Big Day with Bat, Pilozo 5-5 Somedays you can't win for losing. Just ask Héctor Pilozo. He was the King of Swing in the game against the Mud Hens, but his Red Birds were beaten 7-6 anyway.
The Columbus right fielder stepped into the batter's box 5 times against the Toledo and delivered 5 hits.
It was a sensational game for him. He excitedly told the press, "Unbelieveable feeling. Unbelieveable. It felt good. It felt great on the one hand, but a downer at the same time. What a day! 5 for 5! It does wonders for your batting average. But it's a shame we couldn't win it, too."
H. Pilozo singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off T. Odonnell in the 9th.
Thus far this season in 89 games Pilozo is batting .305 with 4 home runs, 47 RBIs and 69 runs scored. He has 117 hits in 383 at-bats. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 95-59, .617 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 2.0 GB | | Record at home | 49-28, .636 PCT | | Record on the road | 46-31, .597 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 8-8, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 21-16, .568 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 22-26, .458 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 73-33, .689 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 16-11, .593 PCT | | Record in May | 16-12, .571 PCT | | Record in June | 18-9, .667 PCT | | Record in July | 17-10, .630 PCT | | Record in August | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in September | 11-6, .647 PCT |
