Not only did they end up in first place during the regular season with a 103-51 record, they were the Southern Association champions. The Barons won the Southern Series for the 2nd time.
A 12-4 triumph over the New Orleans Pelicans at Rickwood Field brought home the trophy to Birmingham. They won the series 4-3. |  | Monday, September 28th, 1936: Birmingham Shut Out by Condon In an almost effortless performance, Ely Condon of the Pelicans shot down the Barons 3-0 on a 2-hit shutout.
His skipper said, "Ely was just locating so well and using his pitches...not leaving anything over the plate."
Condon recorded 2 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.
In the postgame press conference, the Birmingham manager said, "When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game like he can and we couldn't get a key hit off him."
This year Condon has fanned 77 in 281.1 innings and collected a 25-6 record with a 3.14 ERA. | | | | |
